As soon as the temperatures start to drop and the snow starts falling, the town of Midway is transformed into a perfect winter wonderland. Utah’s favorite small Swiss-themed town is the perfect winter getaway in Utah, and as locals, we head across to valley to soak in all the charm as often as we can. The Midway Ice Rink is at the center of town activity all winter long. Whether you’re a skating pro, a hockey lover, or a first timer, you’ll likely fall in love with visiting the Midway ice skating rink.
As the largest outdoor skating rink in Utah, the Midway skating rink is perfect for families and large group gatherings. All of our kids learned to skate here, and love going all throughout the winter with our family and their friends. As Heber Valley locals, it’s where they ask to go for one one-on-one time with mom and dad, where the teens hang out on the weekends and for youth group activities, and is even perfect for a winter date night.
Everything You Need to Know About The Midway Skating Rink
The Midway skating rink is located in downtown Midway right behind the Midway community center. From there you’ll get great mountain views of Wasatch Mountain State Park as well as the charming Swiss-inspired architecture of Midway Utah.
Before you go, make sure to sign the waiver for the skating rink. Their system can be a little bit slow for waivers at the rink, so already having your waivers signed will let you get in and start skating faster! All skaters are required to have a new waiver on file! Go here to sign the Midway skating rink waiver!
The Midway Ice Skating rink is just good old fashioned fun. The skating rink is mostly open in the evenings and weekends, though they do open other times for groups and private rentals. It’s rarely crowded, except Wednesday nights where local youth groups often congregate.
If you’re looking for a family-friendly Utah ice skating rink, look no further.
The entire rink is enclosed by a wall, which is perfect for beginning skaters to hold on to. The warming room is really basic and primarily serves as a dry place to put skates on and off, not somewhere that you want to hang out. If you need to take a break while you’re skating, you could go in there, but the outdoor benches or gazebo are the options we prefer.
There’s a small concession stand there, though we love to wait for a snack and head across the street to the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory – the hot cocoa there is AMAZING!
