Home to 3 ski resorts, multiple skating rinks, a bobsled track, Olympic training facility, and even some ice castles, there is no shortage of Park City winter activities. Here, we’re providing our recommendations for winter activities that are packed full of fun.
We live just down the hill from Park City and find ourselves there several times a week during the winter. There really is something for all ages, and depending on how adventurous you’re feeling, most of these activities are completely family friendly!
Skiing and Snowboarding in Park City
Park City Mountain Resort is the largest ski resort in the United States and there really is something for everyone here. Split into 2 base areas to help visitors access more terrain and to help control the crowds, the skiing here is fantastic. Whether you’re a first time skiier who is just starting out on the First Time lift, or you’re an expert who wants to ski the steeps of 9990 and Jupiter Bowl, Park City skiing can’t be missed in the winter. If you’re new to skiing or riding, make sure to sign up for ski school well in advance so that you can figure out how to ski or ride safely.
Parking at Park City fills up quickly, so plan to get on the mountain early. At The Canyon side there is a really large free parking lot, and at the Park City base, you’ll have to pay for parking and make a reservation in advance. Here are some of our favorite ski resorts in Utah.
Try Bobsledding
Bobsledding at the Utah Olympic Park offers a rare chance to experience the thrill of an Olympic sport firsthand. This fast paced activity takes place on the same track used during the 2002 Winter Olympics, providing an authentic slice of Olympic history. Participants are guided by professional pilots who steer the sled through the icy curves at speeds of up to 60 miles per hour, simulating the real Olympic bobsledding experience. The ride, lasting about a minute, combines the forces of gravity and speed to deliver heart-pounding excitement as you zoom down the track. It’s equal parts exciting and terrifying because of how fast you go. Safety is a top priority, with all riders equipped with helmets and briefed on safety procedures before the adventure begins. This unique experience is open to the public, offering both winter and summer bobsledding sessions, thanks to the track’s state-of-the-art refrigeration system. It’s a must-do for thrill-seekers and Olympic enthusiasts alike, promising an unforgettable rush of adrenaline. Bobsled participants must be 16 years or older.

Refine your Freestyle Tricks at Woodward Park City
At Woodward Park City, freestyle and action are the name of the game. If you’re looking to get better at your freestyle skiing or riding, this is the place to go. With a full terrain park outside, and a ramp and foam pit inside to perfect your tricks on before you head to the snow, there are so many options to help you progress. We love that Woodwards indoor facilities have a strong focus on getting kids into action sports, and they do that in a safe and controlled environment. Options for indoor instruction and outdoor on-snow instruction are available, so there’s a little something for everyone. Our kids have taken tons of classes at Woodward in the last several years and have learned so much. Most lessons and clinics at Woodward are designed for ages 6+.
Go Dog Sledding
Going dog sledding at Lunas Lobos in Park City is an experience you won’t forget, and it’s perfect for all ages. When I went last winter, it was absolutely magical. It’s more than just sitting in a sled; it’s about connecting with these incredible dogs and learning about their world. Half the time, you’re getting to know these amazing animals and understanding the care they need, and the other half, you’re out on the trails, feeling the rush of gliding through the snow behind a team of huskies. Honestly, it was one of the most fun winter experiences in Park City I’ve ever had.
The whole tour feels intimate and personal, which makes sense because the owners, who have a big family and live on the ranch with their dogs, put so much of themselves into it. My heart was full seeing the joy on everyone’s faces, and the day was filled with memories. I keep telling everyone heading to Park City that they absolutely must try dog sledding with Lunas Lobos. It’s essential to book in advance, though, as it’s quite popular and often sells out.
Visit the Utah Ice Castles in Midway
Get ready to be transported to a magical winter kingdom at the Midway Ice Castles. Like the name implies, these are a giant castle all made of ice. Created from scratch every winter, these ice castles near Park City are filled with giant rooms, secret passageways, and plenty of places to explore. One of our favorite things to do there is to race down the ice slides. It’s something our family looks forward to visiting every winter. The Utah ice castles completely transform at night when they’re all lit up, and we highly recommend going a little before sunset so you can see them both in the day and the night.
Fat Biking at Round Valley
Our family loves to bike the Park City trails in the summer and we’re thrilled to see more and more of them accessible in the winter to fat biking. The best place to fat bike in Park City is out at Round Valley where you’ll find miles and miles of groomed trails that are perfect for exploring the area and getting some great views.
Snow Tubing
Snow tubing in Park City offers an high-speed way to enjoy the winter season when you’re looking for a break from skiing or snowboarding. Two notable places stand out for their exceptional snow tubing experiences: Woodward Park City and Soldier Hollow in Midway.
Woodward Park City is conveniently situated just a few miles west of Kimball Junction and directly off of I-80, and offers a dynamic tubing experience with two distinct hills catering to various thrill levels. What makes tubing here a family favorite is the option to race down in separate lanes or join forces, linking arms for a group glide down the slopes. To maximize your adventure, tubing passes are available in 2-hour increments, with the option to reserve times online—a wise move during peak periods when the tubing hill gets extra crowded.
Not far from Park City, the Soldier Hollow tubing park in Midway presents another fantastic venue for snow tubing. Known for hosting the 2002 Winter Olympic cross-country skiing events, Soldier Hollow now offers one of the longest tubing lanes in Utah, providing a thrilling ride down its well-groomed tracks. Like Woodward, Soldier Hollow recommends booking in advance, though Soldier Hollow is usually significantly less crowded than Woodward.
Both Woodward Park City and Soldier Hollow in Midway cater to everyone—from families looking for a day of fun to individuals seeking an exciting alternative to the ski hill. Each location offers unique attributes: Woodward with its family-friendly races and group tubing opportunities, and Soldier Hollow with its Olympic legacy and extended tubing tracks.

Explore Historic Main Street Park City
There’s something undeniably charming about the picturesque streets of small towns, and Park City’s Historic Main Street captures this allure perfectly. It’s not just the quaint aesthetics that draw me in but the vibrant atmosphere that caters to visitors of all ages. Even if shopping might not thrill everyone in the family, Main Street has a magical way of offering something for everyone to enjoy. A highlight for many, my family included, is the indulgence in giant chocolate-covered pretzel sticks from the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory—a treat we never skip. And no matter the weather, a stop at Java Cow for some ice cream seems to always delight, proving that ice cream is indeed a year-round pleasure.
For those interested in delving deeper into the rich tapestry of Park City’s history, the Park City Museum is a treasure trove of knowledge. It provides an engaging look at the town’s evolution from a humble emigrant village to a thriving mining town, and finally, to the renowned ski destination it is today. Snowmobiling in Park City
Going snowmobiling in Park City is an absolute blast and a fantastic way to see the area’s winter landscapes up close. Once you’re geared up and ready, you hit the trails. It’s pretty cool zipping through the snow, with the mountains all around you. The routes take you through some really beautiful spots, from wide-open fields where you can let loose a bit speed-wise, to quiet forested areas that feel like you’re miles away from everything.
Guides typically lead the way, so you don’t have to stress about getting lost. They know the best spots to stop for photos or just to take a moment and soak in the views, which are pretty incredible.
Most places provide the snowmobiles and helmets, so you just need to come dressed for the cold. It’s a fun change of pace from skiing or snowboarding, and honestly, it’s just really fun to drive these things. Whether you’re looking for a bit of adventure or just want to explore more of the area beyond the ski slopes, snowmobiling in Park City is definitely worth trying out.
Visit the FREE Utah Olympic Museum
If you’re looking for a way to fill a little bit of time outside of the cold head to the Utah Olympic Park for the free museums. Inside you’ll find a museum dedicated to the 2002 Winter Olypmic Games as well as another museum all about the history of skiing and ski fashion (it’s actually hilarious). Touring the whole thing takes about an hour, but you’re sure to learn a lot and have some fun along the way.
